Frequently asked questions

Do I lose my gratuity if I resign?

Only in Kuwait, where it is reduced if you have less than 10 years. In Qatar, Oman and Bahrain the law does not reduce it for a resignation. It can be lost everywhere if you are dismissed for serious misconduct.

Which salary is used?

Your last salary. Qatar and Oman use the basic salary; Kuwait and Bahrain usually use the full salary with fixed allowances.

What changed in Bahrain?

Since 1 March 2024 employers pay a monthly contribution to the Social Insurance Organisation, which pays the gratuity for service from that date. Your employer still pays the part for service before it.

What changes in Oman in 2027?

From 19 July 2027 employers pay 9% of the basic wage each month into a savings fund for foreign workers, instead of a gratuity. Gratuity earned before then is still paid by the employer.
