How the split works
- Rent by room share. Each person's room share is added up and the rent is divided in the same proportion. Two people with share 1 and one with share 2 pay 25%, 25% and 50%.
- Bills by days. Electricity, water, internet and other bills are shared by the number of days each person lived in the flat that month. Someone away for half the month pays half as much of the bills.
- Rounding. If you round up to the nearest 5 or 10, the small extra collected is shown so the person who pays the landlord knows what is left over.
Tips for sharing a flat
- Agree on the room shares before you move in and write them down.
- Keep the bills and receipts in one shared chat so everyone can check them.
- Air conditioning is the biggest part of the electricity bill in the Gulf summer. Use our electricity bill calculator to see how the tariff works.
Frequently asked questions
What is the fairest way to split rent?
Many flatmates split by room size or by what each room offers, such as a private bathroom or balcony. Give each room a share (1, 1.5, 2) and divide the rent in that proportion.
How do we split bills if someone travelled?
Enter the days each person was in the flat. The bills are shared by days, so someone away for two weeks pays only for the days they were there.
Is anything saved or sent?
No. The calculation happens in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent until you choose to copy or share the result.
