Know when it starts
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, with Eid al-Fitr around 9 March. Our Ramadan countdown shows the days left and how long the fast will be in your city. Start planning a month before: prices of dates, rice and meat often rise in the last weeks of Sha'ban.
Split the month into five pots
- Food for iftar and suhoor. Take your normal monthly food bill and add 20 to 30%. Buy dry goods (rice, flour, oil, dates) before Ramadan, and cook in batches.
- Zakat al-Fitr for every person you support, due before the Eid prayer.
- Charity and iftar for others: set an amount at the start so generosity does not become debt.
- Eid: clothes, gifts and eidiya money for children.
- Money home for your family's own Ramadan and Eid.
How much is Zakat al-Fitr?
Zakat al-Fitr is one sa' (about 3 kg) of staple food per person. Many countries announce a cash amount each year. For Ramadan 1447 (2026) these were:
| Country | Per person |
|---|---|
| UAE | 25 AED |
| Qatar | 15 QAR |
| Kuwait | 1 KWD |
| Bahrain, Oman | 1.5 BHD / 1.5 OMR |
| Saudi Arabia | Paid in food: about 3 kg of rice or another staple |
The Zakat al-Fitr calculator adds it up for your family, and also works out fidya for fasts you cannot make up.
